Hardbound in near fine condition with dust jacket, printed on acid-free paper, 252 pages includes CONTENTS, PREFACE, APPENDIX, NOTES, BIBLIOGRAPHY and AN INDEX.
The jacket presents an old photo on the cover. It is clean and glossy with a slight turn to the edge at the top of the spine, but no frank wear. The corners and unclipped and the jacket has been placed in an Archival Quality protector to maintain its quality.
The boards are covered in navy cloth with titles blind stamped in gold on the spine. They are clean and straight, free of edge wear, bumps or sunning.
The contents are clean and tight with perfect hinges. There appears to have been some printing difficulty with the final few pages at the lower free corner. One page has a crease and several of these corners are not cut quite perfectly. This is noted only on very close examination of the book. There are no previous owner names, notations, marks, other creases or any tears.
"The life and thought of Hawaii-born William R. Castle, Jr. provide a fascinating look at the impact diplomatic realism had on the life of an important career diplomat. Combined with an important post-State Department career, Castle's public career under four presidents (Woodrow Wilson through Herbert Hoover) had a significant impact on U.S. foreign policy."
"This book describes Castle's intellectual preparation for foreign service and his life-long commitment to diplomatic realism in the making of foreign policy."
