Hardbound in Good condition with Dust Jacket, 361 pages includes a Glossary, measures approximately 5 ½ in. by 8 in.
The jacket features an island painting on the cover as well as a photo of the Author on the rear panel.  It is worn and heavily chipped however, not faded, no price is indicated but neither does it appear price clipped.  It has been placed in an Archival quality clear dust jacket cover and still makes a nice presentation.
The boards are grayish-tan with titles on the spine only.  They are basically clean with minor wear to the edges.  There is a short tear to the upper spine edge that appears  repaired.
The interior of reveals the book to be clean, firmly bound with no loose or misaligned pages.  There is age toning with a couple areas of foxing to the prelims but, otherwise the text is clean.  There are no previous owner indications, no marks, creases or tears.
Armine von Tempski is one of Hawaii’s foremost novelists of the 20th century, most often known for her autobiography, BORN IN PARADISE that was written just before THUNDER IN HEAVEN.   She was born and raised on the Haleakala Ranch on Maui and possessed a great understanding of the people and places that she chose to create stories around.
“Although published during wartime, THUNDER IN HEAVEN contains nothing of the war.”
Set on the Kona Coast of the Big Island, it deals with the devastation of flesh and soul brought on by the infamous disease leprosy.
It is a novel of man’s humanity to man, of love, sacrifice, and devotion.”
- Duell, Sloan and Pearce.
Published just prior to the onset of World War II, likely world events influenced the number printed during the 1940s.  Once again in print by the Ox Bow Press, vintage copies of THUNDER in HEAVEN are now seldom seen, particularly those with original dust jackets.  A moving novel and a very meaningful addition to an Island collection.
”Hawaiians believe if a person tries to do something and the world gives him no recognition, the gods salute him with—Thunder in Heaven!”
