Description
This vintage koa wood heptagon plate was handcrafted in Hawaii by Blair's Honolulu Ltd that was established in 1945 on Oahu by master woodcrafter Millard Blair. In the 1960-70's, Blairs had an outlet store in Waikiki and thereafter continue until the mid-1980's to produce handcrafted koa and monkey pod wood pieces sold throughout Hawaii-nei. Mr Blair is reported to have died in 1993, but his grandson continues to handcraft wood on Maui. The 7-sided plate measures 7.9375" in diameter, its highest point along the seven upturned edge is .875" high in height; the average depth of the bowl is .75" ; and weights about 6 ozs. The plate's natural koa wood highlights change with different lines of sight, background and media with little damage, distress or dullness and no real physical harm seen by eye or felt by hand. All pictures were taken in a camera tent, except for the last two pictures that were a single computer scan at 400 dpi and a blown up portion of that scan after we discovered an inconspicuous, unreadable script not readily visible with the naked eye. We believe that it was an erroneously marking by the craftsmanon the backside of the plate that
we deciphered to read: "
Haw, Monk"
meant
"monkey pod"; however, it is indeed koa wood. The plate was finished without removing the err. The empty Primo bottle and the stand are not for sale, but to illustrate the size of the plate. Will answer all other questions promptly. Will securely pack and ship by USPS first class with tracking provided.
